Mizar Eridanus Holdings Limited Sponsors Commonwealth Fencing Championship in Lagos, Nigeria

When most people picture traditional African sport, fencing isn’t the first image that comes to mind. Yet from 9 to 14 August 2026, at Rugby School Nigeria in Eko Atlantic City, Lagos, history was written on the piste. Mizar Eridanus Holdings Limited, through its subsidiaries Mizar Eridanus Energy Limited and Amazing Food, sponsored the 2026 Commonwealth Fencing Federation Championship, the first time the tournament has been held on African soil.

A Stage Worthy of the Occasion

Twenty nations sent fencers to Lagos, including Australia, Bangladesh, Botswana, Cyprus, England, Ghana, Guernsey, India, Jamaica, Kenya, Mauritius, Namibia, New Zealand, Niger, Northern Ireland, Pakistan, Singapore, South Africa, Togo, Wales and host nation Nigeria. Over six days of competition across the Senior, U23, Veteran and Wheelchair categories, the atmosphere inside the venue was electric, a mix of fierce competitive focus and genuine camaraderie that transcended language and nationality. Watching it all come together was a reminder of why Mizar Eridanus Holdings Limited chose to be part of it.

It’s one thing to read about an international championship. It’s another to watch it unfold: young competitors stepping onto the piste with steely concentration, then embracing their opponents moments later, win or lose. India ultimately topped the medal table, with England second, South Africa third and Nigeria a strong fourth, led by 17 year old Oghenegaren Osievwa Thompson, who won the country’s first ever international fencing gold.

Why This Moment Matters

For Mizar Eridanus Holdings Limited, this wasn’t just a sponsorship, it was personal. The group’s commitment to the continent spans everyday progress and bold, generational milestones alike. Hosting a global stage like this in Lagos reflects what the team has always believed: African talent and hospitality are second to none. That belief was visible throughout the week, from the athletes on the piste to the Mizar Eridanus Holdings Limited team supporting them from the sidelines.

The Team joined the ceremony to celebrate alongside athletes, organisers and supporters, a fitting close to the group’s first Commonwealth Fencing Championship sponsorship.
